Thailand Reports 27 Deaths on First Day of Songkran Seven Days of Road Safety Campaign

A total of 211 road accidents, with 201 injuries and 27 deaths, were reported on Saturday (April 12th) by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) on the first day (April 11th) of the ‘Seven Days Road Safety Campaign’ during Songkran (April 11th – April 17th) 2025.

Most were caused by excessive speeding (40 percent). About 83 percent of the accidents involved motorcycles. Most road accidents occurred on highways (51 percent) between 3:01 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Provinces with the highest fatalities were Bangkok with 5 deaths. The highest number of accidents and injuries were in Mukdahan, northeastern Thailand, with 11 road accidents and 12 injuries.
