Thailand, April 16th, 2025 — Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice, led officials in inspecting the collapsed State Audit Office building in Bangkok, which happened during the Myanmar earthquake we covered multiple times such as here, to gather evidence for legal action.
Investigations are focusing on China Railway No. 10 (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Italian-Thai Development PCL in connection to alleged nominee arrangements and alleged forgery of senior engineers’ signatures. The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has taken up the case as a special investigation.
Pol. Col. Thawee stressed a joint effort across agencies, with Bangkok Governor leading operations and Deputy Governor assisting in search and rescue. Police are probing possible criminal negligence resulting in deaths, while DSI investigates nominee business practices and bidding irregularities. If government officials are found to be involved, the case will be escalated to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
The building construction involved four key contracts—design, supervision, design alteration, and construction—though only the latter has been retrieved so far. The joint venture between the two construction firms is at the center of the probe.
Multiple agencies, including the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, Iron and Steel Institute of Thailand, and Thai Industrial Standards Institute, are examining forensic evidence.
Signature forgery claims, including that of an engineer, are under handwriting analysis expected to take one to two weeks.
Pol. Col. Thawee reiterated that justice must be served impartially, with scientific proof and proper legal process, and stressed the need to support victims. Arrest warrants will be issued as evidence allows, and any attempts to flee won’t stop prosecution.
