Security Forces Hunt Suspects After Twin Attacks in Yala Kill Three Law Enforcement Officers

Yala, April 28th, 2025 — A deadly roadside bomb attack targeted Border Patrol Police (BPP) officers from Ban Sri Thanam Base in Thanto District in Yala Province.

The attackers, whose identities and numbers remain unknown, detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) hidden beneath the road as officers were returning from a health check-up.

Initial reports stated that Pol. Sgt. Maj. Issaret Inthraphet was driving an armored pickup truck back to base when the blast reportedly struck, destroying the vehicle. By 9:45 AM, local police confirmed that two BPP officers, Pol. Sgt. Maj. Issaret Inthraphet and Pol. Cpl. Montipitak Phetnui, had died, while Pol. Cpl. Phanuwat Wetchaphasarn was critically injured.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident around 12:40 AM earlier the same day, a volunteer defense officer from Bannang Sata District in Yala Province, was ambushed and killed near a grocery store just 300 meters from his base.

The attackers reportedly opened fire with assault rifles before setting fire to both the officer and his car. The victim was identified as Volunteer Defense Officer Thirawut Phuttarat.
Security forces have since sealed off both crime scenes for forensic investigation and are working to track down those responsible.
