Chiang Mai Named ASEANs Safest City for 2025

Chiang Mai, Thailand, has been crowned the safest city in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for 2025, according to a recent report by Numbeo, a leading global database on quality of life.

The northern Thai city earned an impressive safety score of 78.2, highlighting its low crime rates, public safety measures, and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.

Numbeo’s safety index, derived from user-submitted data on perceived safety and crime levels, places Chiang Mai at the forefront of urban security in the region. The city’s blend of cultural heritage, modern infrastructure, and community-focused policing has been credited for its top ranking.

Local authorities and tourism officials expressed pride in the achievement, noting that Chiang Mai’s designation as ASEAN’s safest city is expected to boost tourism and investment. “This recognition reflects our commitment to ensuring a secure city for everyone,” a city spokesperson said.

The announcement comes as Chiang Mai continues to attract global attention for its affordability, natural beauty, and rich cultural offerings, further solidifying its status as a premier destination in Southeast Asia.
