U.S. Visa Applicants From Thailand in Some Categories Must Now Set Social Media Accounts to Public for Review

BANGKOK, June 23, 2025 — The U.S. Embassy in Thailand has announced that, effective immediately, all applicants for F, M, or J nonimmigrant visas must adjust the privacy settings of their social media accounts to “public.” This new requirement is part of the vetting process to verify applicants’ identities and eligibility for entry into the United States under U.S. law.

The directive applies to all individuals seeking these temporary visa categories, which include student (F and M) and exchange visitor (J) visas. U.S. authorities will review publicly accessible social media content to ensure compliance with immigration regulations.
The U.S. Embassy stressed the importance of adhering to this rule to avoid delays or complications in visa processing. For more information, applicants are encouraged to visit the official U.S. Embassy website or follow #USConsularThailandTips on social media for updates.
