Suspicious Motorcycle Prompts Security Alert at Phuket Airport

Phuket –

Phuket International Airport (HKT) initiated a security protocol on June 25, 2025, following the discovery of a suspicious motorcycle left unattended in the domestic terminal’s motorcycle parking area.

The Phuket International Airport Director Mr. Wanchai Tamod told the Phuket Express. Airport security personnel were alerted when two motorcycles were seen entering the lot, but only one exited shortly after. The second vehicle remained abandoned, and no individual came forward to claim it. Given the circumstances, the airport promptly activated its Airport Contingency Plan (ACP), Chapter 4, which addresses the handling of suspicious objects or prohibited items discovered on airport premises.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers and local police were swiftly deployed to inspect the vehicle and surrounding area. The investigation was conducted thoroughly to ensure public safety, while access to affected zones was controlled with minimal disruption.

Importantly, airport operations and flight schedules were not impacted during the incident. All flights continued as planned, though airport authorities recommended that passengers arrive at least 2–3 hours before their scheduled departure to avoid delays.

Officials are continuing to monitor the situation closely and have assured the public that any new developments will be communicated promptly.
