Krabi Authorities Assure Public Safety After Suspicious Item Alerts and Threats

Krabi—

Krabi officials have reassured residents and visitors of the province’s safety following a series of security incidents involving suspected explosive devices and online threats. Authorities confirmed that all suspicious items reported within Mueang Krabi District have been successfully secured and are undergoing forensic examination.

Krabi Governor Angkoon Silathewakul, together with Pol. Maj. Gen. Pornchai Khajornklin, Deputy Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 8, and security officials from the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), held a press briefing at the Krabi Provincial Hall on Wednesday evening to address public concerns.

The Royal Thai Police, in coordination with Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams, four K9 units, and local security agencies, launched an intensive sweep of several locations flagged in social media threats. One suspicious motorcycle was discovered near the Krabi Central Mosque but found to contain no hazardous materials. However, three other areas—including a mahogany sculpture park and a signpost near Noppharat Thara Beach—yielded suspicious objects that were safely defused and collected for further analysis.

Deputy Commissioner Pornchai affirmed that the entire operation followed strict safety protocols and shower the effectiveness of inter-agency coordination. “All sites of concern have been cleared, and the situation is fully under control,” he stated. Investigations are ongoing to trace the origins of the threats and the individuals involved.

Governor Angkoon explained that preventive measures are being strengthened across the province. All government departments have been instructed to heighten surveillance, particularly at high-traffic areas such as government offices, tourist destinations, shopping malls, hotels, transportation hubs, religious sites, and educational institutions. Local officials, village security teams, and community leaders have also been mobilized to support these efforts.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to security agencies immediately,” Governor Angkoon said. “Krabi remains a safe destination, and we are committed to ensuring the well-being of residents and tourists alike.
