Chiang Mai Named Best City in Asia

PRESS RELEASE:

Chiang Mai province has earned the top spot as the No. 1 Best City in Asia for 2025, according to Travel + Leisure, with Bangkok also placing in the top three, supporting Thailand’s growing recognition as a leading destination for international travelers. Thailand’s northern city received a score of 91.94, putting it ahead of Tokyo, Japan, which ranked second with a score of 91.39. Bangkok followed closely in third place with a score of 91.34.

The annual ranking, published by the prominent travel and lifestyle platform, evaluates cities based on traveler experiences, cultural offerings, hospitality, and overall appeal. Chiang Mai was recognized for its deep cultural roots, distinctive cuisine, traditional way of life, and the friendliness of its residents. Surrounded by forested mountains, the city offers both scenic beauty and nature-based tourism, including visits to national parks and ethical elephant conservation centers.

Bangkok’s strong showing confirms its continued draw as a dynamic capital known for its historical landmarks, street food, shopping, and entertainment. The city remains a favorite for international visitors seeking an urban experience that blends modern convenience with rich heritage.

Other cities listed in the top 15 include Jaipur, Hoi An, Kyoto, Ubud, Siem Reap, Mumbai, Agra, Osaka, Hanoi, Taipei, Singapore, and Seoul. The narrow point spread among the top-ranked cities suggests that competition is intensifying across the region as destinations strive to offer unique and high-quality experiences.
