BANGKOK, July 24th, 2025 — The People’s Party of Thailand, the largest opposition government party, issued a scathing statement today, denouncing what it called deliberate and unprovoked attacks by Cambodian forces on Thai civilians during recent border clashes. The party accused Cambodia of targeting civilian areas, including a hospital, with long-range weapons, resulting in multiple casualties, including children and the elderly.
In its strongly worded statement, the People’s Party labeled the attacks as clear violations of the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit targeting civilians during armed conflicts. The party expressed unwavering support for Thailand’s military response, describing it as a lawful exercise of self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The statement called on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to take immediate action to pressure Cambodia to cease its “acts of aggression” against Thailand. The party says that Thailand has exercised restraint despite repeated provocations from its neighbor and remains open to peaceful resolution, provided Cambodia halts its violations of international law.
The People’s Party also urged the Thai government to present evidence to the global community regarding Cambodia’s alleged use of anti-personnel mines and its role in initiating the latest hostilities. The party stressed the need for an accurate understanding of the conflict to counter misinformation and ensure accountability.

Expressing deep sorrow for the loss of civilian and military lives, the People’s Party extended condolences to the victims’ families and called on the government to take urgent steps to restore stability along the Thai-Cambodian border.
The escalating tensions have raised concerns about regional stability, with the People’s Party urging swift diplomatic efforts to prevent further violence and loss of life.
