Bangkok, Thailand – A shooting took place at the Or Tor Kor Market in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district on July 28th, 2025, claiming the lives of four security guards and one market vendor, with three others injured. The incident, which occurred in the market’s fresh food zone near the “Kan Jom Phalang” donation point this afternoon, has left the community in shock as police continue their investigation into the motive behind the attack.
According to authorities, the gunman, described as an older man, possibly 61, was wearing a black shirt, cream-colored or camouflage shorts, and carrying a camouflage backpack. He opened fire on the security guards, who were reportedly employed by the same company as the shooter. Surveillance footage captured the assailant later chasing a female vendor, who pleaded for her life before being fatally shot. The gunman then took his own life on a nearby bench, police confirmed.
The shooting triggered panic among shoppers, who fled the scene as Bang Sue Police Station officers locked down the market. Deputy Chief Worapat Sukthai, leading the investigation, stated that the motive remains unclear, though authorities are exploring all possibilities, including potential links to recent Thailand-Cambodia border tensions. No direct connection has been confirmed, however.
Or Tor Kor Market, located near the popular Chatuchak weekend market, is a well-known destination for locals and tourists alike.
Police are working to confirm the shooter’s identity and gather further details. The market remains closed as the investigation continues, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
