A tragic incident unfolded early today in Kab Choeng District, Surin Province, when Private First Class Ratthaphum, 1623rd Infantry Company, reportedly went missing from his base. Around 12:45 AM, approximately 12 gunshots were heard near Wat Ban Khuean Kaew temple, resulting in two civilian injuries—one with a severe gunshot wound to the right lung and another with minor glass shard injuries. Both were rushed to hospitals for treatment and are now stable.
Authorities believe the soldier, armed with an M16 rifle, may have been responsible and fled into a nearby forest. Later reports indicate his body was found, suggesting he may have taken his own life, though this remains unconfirmed. The Royal Thai Army is investigating the incident, with personnel on the ground to ensure public safety and determine the cause, which may involve mental health factors.
