Surin, Thailand – The Royal Thai Army has reported the death of a soldier stationed near Ta Muean Thom Temple in the Phanom Dong Rak District, along the Thai-Cambodian border. The incident occurred on August 23, 2025, at approximately 6:15 p.m., with the soldier’s body discovered inside a restroom at the temple site.
The deceased, identified as Private Pittayut Soda, aged 20, was a conscript from the 1/67 batch who voluntarily enlisted through the Army’s online recruitment program. He served as a rifleman in the 2nd Rifle Squad, 1st Rifle Platoon, 211th Infantry Company, 21st Infantry Battalion, under Special Task Force 2. Preliminary investigations indicate that Private Pittayut had no pre-existing medical conditions, no history of drug use, no signs of stress, and no evidence of physical injuries or altercations. The cause of death is currently under investigation, pending a detailed autopsy by local police.
The Royal Thai Army expressed profound condolences to Private Pittayut’s family, honoring his dedication and sacrifice in protecting the nation’s borders. The Army has notified the soldier’s relatives and pledged full support and compensation in accordance with government regulations.
The Army is continuing its investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the soldier’s death and has vowed to provide comprehensive assistance to his family.
