Lieutenant General Weerayut Raksin, Commander of the 2nd Army Region, has disclosed plans to construct a border fence along the Thai–Cambodian frontier, beginning with key strategic areas to strengthen security for both military personnel and civilians. He made the statement during an inspection tour alongside Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul in Buriram Province.
Lt. Gen. Weerayut explained that the fence will not consist solely of barbed wire but will include additional security measures to reinforce border defenses, such as CCTV surveillance systems for 24-hour monitoring, particularly at night. The initial phase will prioritize areas of tactical importance, guided by the principle that civilian safety can be ensured when the soldiers are also safe.
He added that the plan’s future expansion—whether the fence will eventually extend along the entire Thai–Cambodian border—will depend on further evaluation and strategic priorities.
