Thailand – Traveling to the pristine island of Koh Kood just got faster and greener! A groundbreaking partnership between Swedish technology firm CANDELA and Thai ferry operator SEUDAMGO will introduce the world’s first electric hydrofoil ferry, the CANDELA P-12, to Thailand’s eastern seaboard. The announcement came during the “Swedish-Thai Sustainability Talk” at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, where the Ministry of Transport revealed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two companies.
The CANDELA P-12, a state-of-the-art electric hydrofoil ferry, uses carbon-fiber wings to “fly” above the water, offering a smoother, faster, and more sustainable journey. Capable of cutting travel time to Koh Kood, the ferry also promises to transform tourism routes.
Key features of the CANDELA P-12 include:
✅ Faster travel compared to conventional ferries
✅ Energy-efficient and eco-friendly operation
✅ Enhanced safety in rough seas
✅ Proven performance in Sweden
This initiative marks a big step for Thailand in advancing modern, sustainable water transport. Once operational, the routes will offer travelers a cutting-edge, safe, and environmentally conscious way to explore Thailand’s stunning islands.
That being said, The Pattaya News Notes there is no ETA on when the ferry will be operational, pricing, docking stations, etc. but we will keep a close eye on this for future announcements. The Pattaya News also notes that discussion over exact routes and destinations are not finalized, and neither is speed. Exact final trips may vary and differing statements between Thai authorities and private companies on where the ferries will be used have been noted, with some claiming routes between popular destinations and others claiming they will only operate between Koh Kood and the nearby mainland.
