Landslide and Power Pole Collapse Strike Patong Amid Torrential Rain

Phuket-

Heavy rainfall triggered a landslide and caused a power pole to collapse in Patong on Thursday afternoon, damaging two homes and prompting an urgent response from local authorities.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. in a residential area off Soi Khuan Yang, Phra Baramee Road, Patong. Officers from Patong Police Station, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Somporn Surin and supported by traffic police, patrol units, and a volunteer disaster response team, rushed to the scene to assist affected residents.

Initial assessments confirmed that two houses sustained structural damage due to the landslide. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. One power pole was destabilized and leaned precariously into an outbound traffic lane, prompting authorities to close off one lane to ensure public safety.

Emergency crews coordinated with relevant agencies to stabilize the area, remove debris, and restore traffic flow. Motorists were advised to avoid the affected route while cleanup and repairs were underway.

Kathu District Chief Akkarapol Sutthirak Jittsuphap, along with the Mayor of Patong Municipality and other officials, visited the site to oversee the response and assess further risks. The downpour had also caused mud and debris to wash onto several roads across Patong, raising concerns about additional hazards.

In response, Patong Municipality deployed machinery and personnel to clear the roads and restore safe passage. Local leaders instructed village heads and security officers to closely monitor weather alerts and provide timely updates to residents, ensuring communities remain prepared for further rainfall.

Authorities continue to urge vigilance as the region braces for more wet weather in the days ahead.
