Royal Thai Navy Launches Operation in Trat Province Amid Cambodian Incursion
The Royal Thai Navy has initiated a defensive military operation along the Thai-Cambodian border in Trat province after detecting Cambodian forces re-entering undisputed Thai territory, including the deployment of special units, snipers, and heavy weaponry such as multiple rocket launchers.
Satellite and aerial imagery confirmed that Cambodian troops established a new encampment at Ban Nong Ri in the Chamrak subdistrict, Muang district, an area where three prior Cambodian outposts had been dismantled in previous agreements.
Thai officials adhered to established protocols by issuing warnings through diplomatic channels and urging a peaceful withdrawal. However, Cambodian forces responded by reinforcing their positions, excavating trenches, fortifying defenses, positioning heavy arms, and conducting drone surveillance over Thai military installations, which Thailand views as a clear escalation and threat to its territorial integrity.
In response, the Royal Thai Navy exercised Thailand’s inherent right to self-defense under international law, launching targeted operations to expel the intruders and safeguard sovereignty as well as the safety of local communities.
As of this morning (December 9, 2025), Thai sources report that the operation successfully pushed back Cambodian forces in the Chamrak area by early hours, with clashes now spreading as part of broader border tensions involving multiple provinces. No major updates on casualties specific to Trat have been released today, but the situation remains fluid amid ongoing exchanges elsewhere along the border.
