Samut Prakan, Central Thailand –

A pedestrian bridge on Bang Na–Trat Road collapsed onto traffic on Thursday morning (December 18th) after a trailer truck’s dump bed suddenly lifted and struck the structure, leaving one person dead and causing severe damage to multiple vehicles.

The incident occurred at around 9:25 a.m. at Km 34 inbound to Bangkok, in Bang Phli Noi, Bang Bo. Emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving reports that the bridge had fallen across several lanes of traffic.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that a trailer truck was travelling normally before its dump bed unexpectedly rose while the vehicle was in motion. Drivers behind the truck reportedly honked repeatedly in an attempt to alert the driver, but he appeared unaware of the supposed malfunction.

Moments later, the raised dump bed slammed into the pedestrian bridge as the truck passed underneath, causing the structure to collapse violently onto the roadway. The falling debris crushed the trailer truck and a nearby pickup truck, leaving both vehicles heavily damaged.

One person was confirmed dead at the scene. The trailer truck driver was found trapped inside the wreckage with serious injuries, prompting rescue teams to work urgently to free him.

Authorities are now investigating the cause of the dump bed’s sudden elevation, examining whether mechanical failure, improper maintenance, or driver error contributed to the fatal collapse.
