Krabi –

A Canadian national sparked chaos in Krabi after hijacking a private car inside the Muang Krabi Police Station and leading officers on a dramatic pursuit through the city before being apprehended near Krabi Hospital.

The Phuket City Police told the Phuket Express that they identified the suspect only as Mr. Michael, 43, who allegedly seized a vehicle belonging to a local resident and sped away from the station premises. The incident unfolded in broad daylight, stunning officers and bystanders alike.

According to police, more than 30 officers were immediately mobilized to block roads and chase the fleeing suspect along Uttaradit Road, a busy thoroughfare in central Krabi. The pursuit ended when officers intercepted the vehicle outside a convenience store near Krabi Hospital, where the suspect was taken into custody amid public alarm.

The victim, Mr. Natthapong, 35, told Thai media that he had parked near his child’s school when the foreigner suddenly entered his car without explanation and sat inside. Feeling uneasy, he drove directly to the police station to seek help. However, upon arrival and stepping out of the vehicle, the suspect seized the opportunity to commandeer the car and escape.

Police have charged Mr. Michael with theft and are coordinating with Immigration Police to verify his legal status and background. Investigators are also examining whether the suspect was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.

The case has drawn widespread attention in Krabi, a province known for its tourism industry, raising concerns about public safety and the challenges of handling unexpected crimes involving foreign nationals.
