New Year Holiday Road Accidents in Thailand Claim 171 Lives in Four Days

Thailand-

Thailand’s annual New Year holiday has once again been marred by tragic road accidents. Over the first four days of the “seven dangerous days” of travel (December 30, 2025 – January 2, 2026), authorities recorded 991 accidents nationwide, leaving 956 people injured and 171 dead.

Phuket reported the highest number of accidents (39) and injuries (43). Bangkok recorded the highest death toll, with 14 fatalities. Drunk driving remains the leading cause.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) confirmed that drunk driving continues to be the primary factor behind the losses. Officials stressed that offenders face severe legal penalties, while insurance companies will not cover damages resulting from alcohol-related crashes.
