New Year Holiday Road Accidents in Thailand Claim 241 Lives in Six Days

Thailand’s annual New Year holiday has once again been marred by tragic road accidents. Over the first six days of the “Seven dangerous days” of travel (December 30, 2025 – January 4th, 2026), authorities recorded 1,364 accidents nationwide, leaving 1,313 people injured and 241 dead.

Phuket reported the highest number of accidents (50) and injuries (53). Bangkok recorded the highest death toll, with 20 fatalities.

Authorities pointed to speeding (38%) and drunk driving (22%) as the leading risk behaviors. Motorcycles were the vehicles most frequently involved in crashes (73%). Most accidents occur from 3:01 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. (17%) on highway roads (42%).
