Surat Thani –
A 22-year-old French tourist lost his life in a tragic accident at Na Muang 2 Waterfall on Koh Samui after slipping from a rock while attempting to take a selfie.
Local authorities reported that the incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. when the man, identified only as Alexic, was visiting the popular natural attraction with his girlfriend. The couple had climbed to the second tier of the waterfall to enjoy the scenery and capture photographs.
According to the girlfriend’s account, the victim had just finished taking pictures with her before stepping onto a large rock to photograph himself. While adjusting his position and stepping backward to frame the waterfall, he lost his footing, slipped, and fell from the cliff. The impact proved fatal.

Emergency responders from Koh Samui Police Station, district officials, disaster prevention teams, tourist police, immigration officers, and local rescue volunteers coordinated a challenging recovery operation. Due to the waterfall’s steep terrain, rescuers had to trek and climb over slippery rocks to reach the site before retrieving the body.
The couple had been staying at a hotel in Bo Phut subdistrict during their holiday. Authorities have notified the French Embassy and are assisting the girlfriend, who witnessed the accident.
Na Muang 2 Waterfall is one of Koh Samui’s most visited natural landmarks, attracting both domestic and international tourists. Officials have reminded visitors to exercise caution when exploring natural sites, particularly during photo-taking activities near cliffs and slippery rocks.
