Thai Meteorological Department Warns of Summer Storms Across Thailand

Thailand –

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has warned of summer storms expected between February 23 and 25 as unstable weather conditions develop across the country. A new wave of cold air from China is forecast to move over Thailand and interact with the prevailing hot, humid air, triggering thunderstorms across many areas.

The storms are expected to bring gusty winds, lightning, and brief periods of heavy rain. Rainfall is projected to increase nationwide, with widespread showers anticipated on Feb. 24 and storm activity possibly continuing through Feb. 26.

Residents are advised to take precautions during storms, avoid open areas, and stay clear of unstable structures or billboards that could collapse in strong winds. Farmers are urged to safeguard crops against potential damage. The TMD recommends closely following official weather updates for real-time information.

The increased rainfall is expected to help ease air pollution and lower PM2.5 levels. Once the cold air mass weakens and moves away, Thailand is expected to fully enter the summer season, with higher temperatures likely in basin areas such as Chiang Mai, Lampang, and Mae Hong Son, where heat can accumulate more intensely.
