Thailand –
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning of summer storms expected to affect parts of upper Thailand from March 11 to 13. Residents in several regions have been advised to prepare for severe weather, including thunderstorms, strong, gusty winds, and possible hail.
The storms are expected to begin in the northern region before expanding to the central region, the eastern region, the western part of the northeastern region, and later Bangkok and surrounding provinces. The unstable weather is linked to a westerly wind wave moving in from Myanmar, interacting with a moderate high-pressure system bringing cooler air from China, while very hot conditions remain across Thailand.
According to the forecast timeline, northern provinces, including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Phayao, and Nan, are expected to experience storms first on March 11. The system is projected to spread across the entire northern region, the upper central region, the western part of the northeastern region, and the eastern region on March 12, which is expected to be the most active period. On March 13, the weather system is expected to move southward toward the lower central region, the eastern region, and the Bangkok metropolitan area, then gradually weaken.
Authorities advise the public to avoid open areas and locations near large trees, billboards, or unstable structures during storms. Farmers are also encouraged to secure orchards and livestock areas to reduce potential damage, while residents are urged to remain cautious as weather conditions may shift rapidly from extreme heat to severe storms.
