PHUKET –
Phuket International Airport has resumed normal flight operations after an Air India Express aircraft malfunction on the runway temporarily disrupted air traffic and forced the airport’s single runway to close for several hours.
The incident involved Air India Express flight AXB938 operating on the Hyderabad–Phuket route. After the aircraft malfunctioned during landing, authorities coordinated with the airline and aviation agencies to remove the aircraft, assist passengers, and manage flight disruptions while maintaining aviation safety procedures.
Airport officials later conducted detailed inspections of the runway surface, lighting systems, navigation equipment, and other safety infrastructure. Authorities also reviewed landing data and CCTV footage before confirming that all systems were fully operational and that the runway was ready for use again. A flight arriving from Sydney was among the first scheduled to land after operations resumed.
Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn said relevant agencies from both the public and private sectors worked together to manage the situation and restore airport operations. Airlines provided assistance to affected passengers in line with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand’s regulations, while the province also used the Cell Broadcast Service to deliver updates in Thai and English to residents and tourists. Officials said the coordinated response helped reduce disruption and maintain confidence among travelers visiting the southern province.
