Thai Air Force Clarifies U.S. Aircraft Landing in Krabi, Says There is No Military Significance

Krabi

The Royal Thai Air Force has issued a statement addressing public questions regarding the landing of United States military aircraft at Krabi International Airport this week.

Air Force spokesperson Air Chief Marshal Chakkrit Thammavichai explained on Wednesdsay (April 8th) that the landing was part of a routine mission involving troop rotation and an air medical evacuation (MEDEVAC). He stated that such operations are standard practice for the U.S. military and fall within the long-standing framework of Thai–U.S. security cooperation.

According to the Air Force, the mission was conducted strictly in line with established procedures. The U.S. side submitted a formal diplomatic clearance request through official channels, which was reviewed and approved by the relevant Thai authorities. Coordination also took place with local agencies in Krabi, including airport officials and security units, to ensure smooth operations without disrupting civilian services.

The Air Force stressed that the landing carried no special military significance and was not connected to regional conflicts in Iran. Permission was granted under the same conditions applied to all foreign aircraft, reaffirming Thailand’s commitment to neutrality and adherence to international protocols. They also stressed there was no “secret US military base” as some commenters online claimed.

“The public can be assured that every step was carried out under close supervision by Thai agencies, with national sovereignty, security, and the interests of the people as the foremost priority,” the statement concluded.
