Chinese Embassy in Bangkok Says Chinese National Arrested With Massive Weapons Cache Near Pattaya Will Not Be Protected From Thai Law

Bangkok – The spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Thailand has issued a statement addressing media questions regarding a Chinese citizen currently under investigation by Thai police for alleged illegal possession of a large amount of military grade weapons and explosives.

In response to recent reports, the embassy confirmed it is treating the matter with high importance. According to the spokesperson:

“The Chinese Embassy in Thailand attaches great importance to this case. Relevant Chinese authorities are urgently verifying the relevant information and facts concerning the individual involved. The Chinese government has consistently urged Chinese citizens residing abroad to strictly abide by the laws and regulations of their host countries. China does not protect any Chinese nationals who violate local laws or commit criminal offences overseas and is ready to support the relevant countries in handling such cases appropriately in accordance with the law.”

The spokesperson further pointed out China’s commitment to bilateral cooperation:

“The Chinese side is willing to continue strengthening law enforcement and police cooperation with the Thai side to jointly prevent and combat cross-border crimes, while developing an atmosphere conducive to friendly cooperation and normal exchanges between the two countries.”

The statement comes amid ongoing investigations by Thai authorities into the suspect.
