Thai Prime Minister to Visit Koh Samui and Koh Phangan

Surat Thani –

Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Anutin Charnvirakul is going to visit Koh Samui and Koh Phangan to oversee efforts set at resolving issues related to foreign business operations in the region, especially around a large number of businesses allegedly operating illegally using nominee structures and certain nationalities like Israelis and Russians allegedly running many of them.

The visit will include a key meeting at the Koh Phangan District Community Hall, where the Prime Minister will be engaged with local officials and Thai business owners to review challenges posed by illegally run foreign-owned enterprises.

This is part of growing concerns among residents and authorities about the impact of foreign investment on local economies, particularly in popular tourist destinations such as Koh Phangan. By directly addressing these matters, the government wants to strike a balance between welcoming international investment and protecting community interests.

This engagement forms part of a broader national agenda to strengthen regulatory oversight, support sustainable tourism, and maintain economic stability in Thailand’s island districts.
