Bangkok —
The Royal Thai Police, working closely with Japanese law enforcement, have arrested a 39‑year‑old Japanese national identified only as Mr. Sasaki, the alleged ringleader of a large‑scale call center and human trafficking syndicate. The arrest took place in Bangkok’s Thonglor district on June 6, 2026, following months of coordinated investigation.
Investigators discovered that Mr. Sasaki had established a base of operations in Poipet, Cambodia, while secretly residing in Bangkok with his family. He was wanted under a warrant issued by the Nagoya District Court in Japan on April 1st, 2026, for large‑scale fraud that caused losses amounting to billions of yen. Japanese authorities identified him as a key figure directing cross‑border call center scams and coercive labor schemes linked to human trafficking.
The arrest was executed by immigration police and specialized investigative units, who tracked Sasaki’s movements until he was apprehended in Thonglor. He will be extradited to Japan to face prosecution.
Japanese investigators have further revealed that the syndicate operated as part of a wider transnational criminal network, exploiting Cambodia as a hub for fraudulent call centers and trafficking victims into forced labor. This aligns with intelligence shared among regional law enforcement agencies, underscoring the need for multinational cooperation.
