CHUMPHON, Thailand
Officers from the Central Investigation Bureau’s Highway Police Division have arrested four Chinese men who illegally entered Thailand and were traveling concealed among passengers on a southbound tour bus. Police are now probing the men’s potential links to illegal scam networks.
The arrests took place at a police checkpoint near the Tha Sae Highway Police public service unit in the Tha Sae district, Chumphon province. Acting on a tip that four suspicious Chinese men were heading south, officers set up the interception point and inspected the bus when it arrived.
During the check, the four men were unable to produce passports or any valid documents authorizing their entry or stay in Thailand. Further investigation confirmed they had no legal proof of entry, leading to their arrest on charges of “being aliens entering and remaining in the Kingdom without permission.”
The operation was supervised by Pol Lt Gen Natthasak Chaovanasai, Commander of the Central Investigation Bureau, along with relevant commanding officers.
All four suspects reportedly confessed during initial questioning that they had entered Thailand illegally and possessed no valid travel documents. They have been detained and transferred to Tha Sae Police Station for legal proceedings.
Authorities are now expanding the investigation to identify individuals or networks involved in smuggling the foreigners into the country. They are also examining possible connections to transnational online scam operations, though no additional charges have been filed in that regard at this stage.
Police explained that the arrests form part of a broader crackdown on illegal immigration and efforts to disrupt cross-border criminal networks that may use Thailand as a base of operations.
