On July 22nd, 2026, the Customs Department, through the Regional Customs Office 5, carried out a targeted inspection at a private courier company in Phuket. The operation was to prevent the spread of illegal substances in one of Thailand’s most prominent tourist destinations. Using X-ray screening and random checks on suspicious parcels, officers uncovered a major narcotics shipment.
Authorities discovered 5.26 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as “ice”) concealed in transparent plastic bags, as well as approximately 100,000 methamphetamine tablets (“yaba”) hidden inside a styrofoam icebox packed within a suspicious parcel. The combined street value of the seized drugs is estimated at 25.15 million baht.
The Customs Department immediately coordinated with the Phuket Narcotics Suppression Unit and Division 2 of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB Region 4) to expand the investigation. Officials are working to trace the network behind the smuggling attempt and bring those responsible to justice.
The offense constitutes trafficking in Category 1 narcotics with intent to sell without authorization, a serious crime under Thailand’s Narcotics Code and the Customs Act B.E. 2560 (2017). Authorities stated that such activities not only endanger public health but also pose a threat to national security and community safety.
