BANGKOK: Thai police have reported a major nationwide crackdown on drug networks, saying they dismantled more than 1,491 trafficking groups in August and seized tens of millions of methamphetamine pills, more than six tonnes of crystal meth, and assets worth hundreds of millions of baht.
The Royal Thai Police said the operation, titled a nationwide “encirclement and search” campaign against drug networks, was carried out from 1 to 28 August 2026 in line with government and police policy. Authorities said the goal was to cut off dealers, dismantle organized networks, and stop narcotics from reaching communities.
According to police figures for the 28-day period, officers:
– Dismantled 1,491 networks
– Recorded 17,440 drug cases
– Arrested 17,481 suspects
– Seized more than 77 million methamphetamine pills
– Seized 6,446 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (“ice”)
– Seized 681 kilograms of ketamine
– Seized 16 kilograms of heroin
– Confiscated 498 firearms
– Seized or froze assets worth more than 319 million baht
On the 28th of August alone, police said they searched 2,904 locations covering 529 networks, made 2,140 drug arrests involving 2,181 suspects, executed 131 arrest warrants, and seized drugs, firearms, and related assets worth more than 43 million baht.
Provincial Police Region 2 said it would continue aggressive prevention and suppression across its area, targeting dealers, couriers and financial networks in an effort to protect the public.
Police urged residents to report suspected drug activity, saying public tips were essential to breaking trafficking cycles. Tips can be made around the clock to emergency line 191, the Royal Thai Police hotline 1599, or the nearest police station.
Authorities appealed for continued public cooperation to protect families and keep communities safer.
