Pathum –
Police in Pathum Thani are intensifying efforts to track down a gunman who staged a daring daylight robbery at a bank in Talad Thai, Khlong Luang, escaping with more than 1.5 million baht before torching his getaway vehicle.
The Pathum Thani Provincial Police reported on Thursday (September 10th) at approximately 4:00 p.m.. that a lone male suspect entered the bank armed with a handgun. Witnesses reported he was dressed in a red long-sleeved shirt, jeans, a brown-brimmed hat, and a cloth mask covering his face. He also wore gloves and carried a shoulder bag. Brandishing the weapon, he threatened staff and forced them to load cash into a plastic bag he had brought.
The robber fled with 1,541,704 baht in cash, driving away in a grey Toyota Vios sedan.
Just 30 minutes later, police received reports of a car fire near the staff housing area of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), opposite Thammasat University Hospital. The burned vehicle matched the description of the getaway car, suggesting the suspect deliberately destroyed it to hinder pursuit.
Pol. Col. Wisanu Rak Phrommas, Deputy Commander of Pathum Thani Provincial Police and Acting Superintendent of Khlong Luang Police Station, led investigative teams to the scene. Forensic officers were dispatched to collect evidence, while detectives began canvassing for witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage.
Authorities believe the suspect acted alone and had planned the escape route in advance. A province-wide manhunt is underway, with police urging the public to report any information that could lead to the arrest.
