Chiang Rai COVID-19 center confirms second and third Thai domestic case of Covid-19 connected to Chiang Mai case, both in Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai-

• Two more cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Chiang Rai this morning.
• Both are connected to a case found earlier in Chiang Mai
• All three entered Thailand illegally from Myanmar, where a Covid-19 outbreak is taking place.
• The two recent cases did not have a large contact history and did not leave their hotel room or go to public places, according to Chiang Rai authorities. The first case, however, did.

The Chiang Rai COVID –19 center  today (November 30th) has officially reported two new Thai confirmed cases connected with a previous 29-year-old old woman with a confirmed case of Covid-19 in Chiang Mai.

The Pattaya News reported the second confirmed case yesterday, with more information below:

According to a statement released by the Thai National News Bureau and the DDC yesterday (November 29th) the second case is a friend of a confirmed case on Saturday (November 28th) and had also been with the first patient in Myanmar.

The second and third confirmed patients are females, aged 26 and 23. They crossed a natural border illegally into Thailand without going into quarantine and stayed in Chiang Rai at the Mai Sai Inn. On November 28th they heard that their friend who had gone to Chiang Mai had tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. One woman then went and got tested and was also confirmed, at which point her friend, the third case, was contact traced and also tested positive.

These two latter cases, unlike the first case, primarily stayed at their hotel room and did not visit public places, according to Chiang Rai authorities. They primarily used food delivery during their stay at the hotel.

There are at least 26 people connected with these two confirmed cases and only four are considered high risk. All are being tested for the Covid-19 virus and will be quarantined, added Chiang Rai authorities, while urging the public to not panic but still use precaution such as wearing masks, socially distancing and washing their hands.
