Bangkok –
A Thai national, 26, was arrested in Bangkok on December 10th for allegedly selling and possessing a huge amount of illegal e-cigarettes at an estimated worth of more than 100,000 baht in value.
Officials from the Public Affairs Division of Royal Thai Police along with local police raided a condominium in the Bangkok Noi district of the capital around 7:00 PM and captured the 26-year-old suspect, Thanakrit Kupesinchai, following a tip-off from a local concerned citizen regarding his alleged illegal activities.
Further investigation exposed that Thanakrit reportedly created and owned a Facebook account titled “Jenny Natacha” for allegedly selling e-cigarettes and their components online before delivering the products in a parcel. He reportedly received up to 50 orders per day, with a circulating revenue of about a hundred thousand baht per day.
A total of 50 e-cigarettes, 120 bottles of refill liquid, 80 atomizer heads, 40 batteries, 200 empty bottles of refill liquid, and 200 boxes of empty parcels with a total worth of more than 100,000 baht were discovered and confiscated in his room.
Thanakrit was taken to Bowon Mongkol Police Station where he reportedly confessed, stating that he had been operating the online business selling e-cigarettes for some time.
He was initially charged for violating the Consumer Protection Board of a prohibition of sales and service of “hookahs, electronic hookahs, and electronic cigarettes, smoking materials for hookahs, and liquids for filling electronic hookahs and electronic cigarettes.”
Thailand has some of the strictest laws in the world on e-ciggarettes.
