Samut Sakhon –
Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced today, December 18th, to closely monitor more than 10,000 people connected to a female shrimp farmer from Samut Sakhon who was confirmed with positive results from Covid-19 Coronavirus last night.
About 10,000 people who were categorized in low-risk, moderate-risk, and high-risk groups by the public health ministry will be quarantined and tested for Covid-19 to prevent the possible transmission of the virus in the country before the end of the year, when thousands of people would travel across the country and return to their hometown for the New Year’s celebration. This is also being done to prevent possible cancellation of New Year’s events and parties.
The Minister told the press this morning that the recent case must be completely under control and must be investigated thoroughly to the source of the infection within one week in order to keep the public calm during the New Year season. He is also planning to visit the area this weekend to monitor the situation by himself.
The new local case of Covid-19 coronavirus which was announced yesterday involves a 67-year-old female patient who works as a shrimp farmer and vendor at a local fresh market in the Mahachai area of the province.
Although she has no travel record recently, it is reported by local media that she might have been infected after reportedly interacting with some Burmese nationals who were also working at the market.
Additionally the governor of the province in Samut Sakhon has announced that all Burmese migrant workers will be tested for Covid-19.
