RECAP: CCSA announces 82 domestic cases of Covid-19 infections nationwide in the past 24 hours not in quarantine areas

Thailand found a number of 82 domestic cases out of 527 new infections of Covid-19 Coronavirus nationwide in the past 24 hours, CCSA spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin announced at a press briefing today, January 5.

Among the local transmission cases, 56 infections are recently confirmed in Samut Sakhon (31), Bangkok (15), Singburi (3), Ayutthaya (2), Nonthaburi (2), Surin (1), Phetchaburi (1), and Suphanburi (1).

The other 26 confirmed patients, particularly in Nonthaburi (18), Surat Thani (6), Nakhon Pathom (1), and Nan (1), are being under disease investigation by the provincial public health office.

According to the CCSA, a total of 439 Covid-19 infections were mostly found in Thai and migrant workers in Samut Sakhon, linked to the first cluster at the shrimp center. However, these are in quarantined areas, such as dormitories, with no public exposure.

Five provinces, namely Samut Sakhon, Rayong, Chonburi, Chantaburi, and Trat, has now become the highest and strictest controlled areas, in which people are not recommended to travel across the areas unless necessary. However, there is NOT a lockdown or travel ban. Risky public places are closed. Restaurants are also closed from 9:00 PM. to 6:00 AM except for takeaway. Field hospitals are being installed in several areas in the provinces as a precaution.

28 provinces in the country are now the highest controlled area, 11 provinces are the high control area, and the other 38 provinces, where no infected patients are reported, are under authorities’ surveillance.
