Eight prominent PDRC political prisoners granted bail by Thai Criminal Court, released this afternoon

Bangkok –

A group of pro-institution supporters gathered in front of the Bangkok Remand Prison in the capital today, February 26th, after eight former protest leaders of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) were granted bail by the Criminal Court this morning.

Sawat Charoenphol, a lawyer of Suthep Thaugsuban, also arrived at the prison after the court decision and revealed to the press that the court has considered bail because Suthep and the rest of the defendants did not show any signs of escape or intention to escape and their penalty is not severe from a legal standard.

However, all of them are not permitted to travel outside the country while the case is being considered and investigated. If traveling abroad was necessary, withheld money or properties must be placed with at least 600,000 baht in value before leaving. They must present themselves to the Court as soon as returning.

In terms of fighting cases, Sawat said a team of lawyers had started planning and investigated in detail from the timeline of the summonings of the DSI to the court’s hearing Wednesday. They are also preparing to appeal for bail money release because the political gathering is part of the constitutional rights.

After the release this afternoon, all of the defendants will not be giving any interviews and left immediately to avoid a clash between another group of people who planned to gather and protest against today’s release, the lawyer stated.
