Bangkok –
Ratchaburi MP Pareena Kraikupt from the Palang Pracharath Party has been temporarily suspended from duty today, March 25th, over charges of encroaching on national forest land with her chicken farm.
The order has an immediate effect after Thailand’s Supreme Court had accepted a complaint from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) last February, stating that Pareena had violated ethical conduct by encroaching on reserved forest land in Ratchaburi province.
The temporary suspension was in line with the law under Section 81, which states that an MP must stop performing their duty as an MP after the court accepts a case in which an MP is accused of a gross violation of ethical conduct.
According to legal proceedings, the judicial panel will forward the petition of NACC to acknowledge MP Pareena after the initial case review. The date for the first consideration will also be determined for interrogation and evidence examination.
Previously, Pareena had asked the court to allow her to continue to perform her MP duties, reasoning that she had already returned the land that she had allegedly encroached to the state. However, the court had dismissed her request.
