Three Phuket nightclubs who held mass parties to reportedly face legal action as confirmed cases of Covid-19 rise on island

Three large nightclubs in Phuket where mass parties were held last week will reportedly face legal action as Phuket confirmed cases of Covid-19 were rapidly rising.

The Phuket Public Health Office this afternoon (April 9th) reported 18 new confirmed cases of Covid-19. The total confirmed Phuket cases of Covid – 19 is now at 29 cases.

The Phuket government officially ordered this morning (April 9th) the closure of all entertainment venues on the island for ten days from today to April 18th except those three nightclubs, which are closed until April 21st.

The Phuket Vice Governor Vikrom Jakthee told the press this morning, “Those three nightclubs that hosted mass parties which were the Shelter Phuket Dance & Night Club in Patong, Cafe Del Mar Phuket in Kamala, and the Illuzion nightclub on Bangla Rd in Patong are ordered to close for 14 days since yesterday (April 8th) to April 21.”

People who have recently visited the following places, please proceed to the nearest hospital for COVID-19 testing.

Phuket asks foreigners who went to major recent events to come forward for Covid-19 testing

“These three nightclubs are to face legal action as they did not followed Covid19 precautions and rules where lots of people joined parties without masks or social distancing.” Vikrom stated.

“A Phuket field hospital will be opened soon at a sports complex to accommodate additional Covid-19 positive patients,” he added.
