Several houses and crops in northern and northeastern Thailand were wrecked after a tropical storm has battered the country in the past weeks.

Hours of heavy rain and storms had caused landslides in an area of Thoeng District, in the Chiang Rai province, since the early hours of Sunday, April 18th. Two houses were reportedly ruined by nearby collapsed walls and five others were swept away by the storm, according to Village Headman Narongchai Jaroonsakulwong.

Several houses, crops, livestock, and local vehicles were also damaged and lost. Large trees were also spotted falling down and blocking traffic since yesterday morning. The local authorities were reportedly rushing to remove them after being reported of the incident. No injuries were reported so far, according to their statement.

Meanwhile, in Nakhon Ratchasima, the Nakhon Ratchasima governor along with related senior officials have visited several areas in the Khonburi district yesterday to give moral support to farmers who have been affected by the tropical storm.

A 65-year-old local farmer, Thongmoun Kamdang, said that his fruit farms of jackfruits that he had been growing for four years were badly destroyed from the constant rain. “The fruits were nearly ripe and delectable. We were about to harvest them shortly, unfortunately, the storm came and ruined them all,” he said.

More than 300 houses were also wiped out and 164 households have lost their homes in 5 subdistricts and 15 villages of Sakon Nakhon province. All of them were taken care of by local authorities under the approval of governor Monsit Paisarnthanawat. He and his working committee also paid a visit to the damaged areas to distribute supplies and give moral support to the locals.

Additionally, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) reported the outbreaks of thundershowers with gusty winds and isolated heavy rains are forecast for upper Thailand. People should beware of the severe conditions. Farmers should prepare for crop damage this week as well.
