Phuket provincial authorities yesterday, April 28th, ordered stricter health measures on the island, including closing a major land transportation channel overnight and entry restrictions for visitors from red-and-orange zones, effective today until at least May 12th.
Some of the highlight measures include the closure of all educational institutions and in-class studying; the closure of bars, pubs, karaoke, massage, and other entertainment venues; the ban of any activities and gatherings with more than 30 people; and the prohibition of alcohol sales at restaurants.
Similar to red-zone provincial restrictions, all walking street and night markets are ordered closed. Restaurants for dine-in are allowed to open until 9:00 PM. and until 11:00 PM for taking away. Department stores are closed at 9:00 PM. and not allowed to host any sale promotion events. Entertainment such as games and cinemas at the stores are also closed.
The province also announced the closure of the Tha Chat Chai checkpoint, land transportation channel, from 23.00-05.00 hrs. All types of vehicles are prohibited from entering Phuket during this time, except for ambulances, rescue vehicles, vehicles transporting consumer goods, fresh food, drugs, pharmaceuticals, medical chemicals, etc. However, drivers and all people in the vehicles in question must receive double doses of a Covid-19 vaccine or have an RT-PCR test certificate for Covid-19 within 72 hours upon arrival.
Visitors from red-zoned and or orange-zoned areas must undergo stringent measures to prevent the risk of the Covid-19 spread. They are allowed to enter the island if they have completely received two vaccinations or if they have provided a Covid-Free certificate within 72 hours.
Those who do not meet any of the requirements above are required to do an “Antigen Rapid Test” with a price of 500 baht for a foreigner (free for a Thai national) and must wait for 15 minutes for the result. All visitors must install the Mor-Chana application, register at www.gophuget.com, have EOC (Emergency Operation Center) check for Covid-19, and strictly follow all the protective measures.
Additionally, all residents to wear either surgical or cloth masks when leaving their residence. The fine for violation is not more than 20,000 baht.
