Pro-democracy prominent protest leader, Panusaya “Rung” Sithijirawattanakul, has been granted bail by the Criminal Court this afternoon, May 6th, after the bail request was successfully made for the sixth time.
The bail condition included a surety of 200,000 baht. Rung must vow to wear an EM bracelet device at all times. She cannot participate in any activities, organize or lead any protests, and give any speeches that are reportedly offensive to the royal institution nor leave the country without the court’s permission.
Rung was detained at Central Women’s Correctional Institution under lese majeste charges and other similar charges for 59 days, following an overnight pro-democracy demonstration at the Thammasat University on September 2020.
Last month, two of her fellow activists, Jatupat “Pai Daodin” Boonpattararaksa and Somyot Pruksakasemsuk, were also granted bail under similar conditions.
Meanwhile, two other prominent pro-democracy activists, Parit “Penguin” Chiwarak and Chai-amorn “Ammy the Bottom Blues” Kaewviboonpant, had their verdicts postponed from today as both were in close contact with recently-found Covid-19 infected activist, Arnon Nampa, according to the Criminal Court.
