Thai Meteorological Department warns of monsoon rain in Southern Thailand throughout this week, caused by tropical cyclone “YAAS” over the Bengal Bay

The Thai Meteorological Department this afternoon, May 24th, has warned of a tropical cyclone “YAAS”, causing monsoon rain to prevail over seven provinces in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, starting today until this Saturday, May 29th.

The storm is moving north-northwestward at a speed of about 8 km./hr. with maximum sustained winds of about 65 km./hr. It is expected to make landfall over upper India during May 26th and the 27th, resulting in rainfall in the South of the country all over the week from May 24th to the 29th.

Heavy to very heavy rains are forecast for the South, particularly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Ranong, Phangnga, and Phuket. People in the South should be careful of severe conditions.

Strong wind and waves are forecast over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. About 2-4 meter waves are likely in the Andaman Sea and above 4 meters in thundershower areas of the Andaman Sea while about 2-meter waves are predicted in the upper Gulf, 1-2 meters in the lower Gulf, and about 2 meters in thundershower areas.

All small ships in the Andaman Sea should keep ashore and all ships in the Gulf should proceed with caution during the warning period.
