RECAP: Thailand finds 2,419 daily Covid-19 infections with 33 additional deaths in past 24 hours, mass Covid-19 inoculation kick-off starts today

Thailand discovered a total of 2,419 daily Covid-19 infections with 33 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, CCSA spokesperson Taweesilp Visanuyothin announced this morning, June 7th.

Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest numbers of patients were reported in Bangkok with 943, followed by Samut Pakran with 321, Phetchaburi with 265, Trang with 106, Samut Sakhon with 92, and Nonthaburi with 86. Chonburi reported 53 new and confirmed domestic infections this morning.

Today has marked the first day of the mass Covid-19 inoculation program in nearly 1,000 vaccination centers nationwide. As of this morning, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha had also inspected the vaccination facility at Bang Sue Grand Station where the general public is scheduled to be vaccinated for their first shots.

The mass vaccination campaign in Bang Sue Grand Station has proceeded among the first target groups, especially the elderly, disabled, and people suffering from seven health conditions. 4,000 teachers and educational officials in Bangkok and 5,000 local residents who booked an appointment were also appointed for the first shot at the train station today. About 10,000 people are estimated to receive the vaccination at the Bang Sue Grand Station alone by the end of the day, DDC’s director-general Opas Karnkawinpong stated.

In the past two hours, more than 143,000 people were vaccinated across the country, the  director-general added. The number included 73,000 seniors over 60 years old, 21,000 people suffering from seven chronic diseases, and 12,000 medical workers.

As of today, 2,999 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 179,886 cases with 129,516 recoveries and a total of 1,269 deaths since the start of the pandemic. About 9,754 people received their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccination and another 17,837 people received their second shot yesterday, marking a total number of 4,218,094 vaccinated people in Thailand who have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
