Koh Samui ready to welcome vaccinated foreign tourists by July 15th if 70 percent of population is vaccinated

Samui, Surat Thani –

Koh Samui is ready for its reopening for vaccinated foreign tourists and becoming a part of stimulating Thailand’s economy, district officer Thirapong Chuaychu stated today, June 21st.

Thirapong said the island was ready to open for foreign tourists. About 70 percent of the total residents in Koh Samui are encouraged to receive vaccination in order to create herd immunity. It is estimated by the authorities that Samui would be ready for welcoming foreign tourists by July 15th.

“Surat Thani Province has coordinated with the Provincial Administrative Organization to establish Covid-19 Rapid Test rooms at Koh Samui Pier, Koh Phangan, and Samui Airport for all arrivals,” he told local reporters.

Other health measures also include the stay at Alternative Local State Quarantine (ALSQ) hotels and accommodations for tourists during the first seven days. The remaining seven days, they are required to stay at “SHA” standardized or Samui Plus hotels, where more than 70 percent of their employees have been vaccinated. This plan is different from the “Phuket Sandbox” plan in that for the first seven days tourists must stay at their hotel or resort but can utilize activities and venues at the hotel.

All staff who would facilitate the tourists via boats and cars will be fully vaccinated and trained through public health courses.

Thirapong stated: “According to the information from Thai doctors with the Ministry of Public Health, it is estimated that with the number of tourists at 100,000 people, there will be only a 0.2 percent chance of being infected with COVID-19 because they all have been vaccinated, they have done swab tests before arriving, and they will only be able to stay in a limited area for the first 7 days.”

“Therefore, all residents on the island should be confident that the reopening will be safe as the authorities have fully and strictly conducted health measures issued by Ministry of Public Health,” Thirapong concluded.
