Bangkok –
Thailand’s Cabinet Committee today, July 7th, has approved the purchase of 20 million doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to be distributed to residents in Thailand for free injections by the fourth quarter of 2021.
Government House spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri announced after the meeting of the cabinet committee this afternoon that the Cabinet has authorized the Ministry of Public Health to procure the initial 20 million doses of Pfizer vaccine and had the Director-General of the Department of Disease Control signed the trading agreement in accordance with the Attorney General.
The Department of Disease Control then would discuss with the vaccine manufacturer again before the official agreement. Additionally, the government also endorsed an agreement from the United States regarding the country’s distribution of Pfizer vaccines in Thailand.
The first lot of 20 million doses are expected starting from October, according to the spokesperson. The spokesperson warned this did not mean exactly on October first, as a set date was not yet decided. It is not yet stated by the officials which group of people would become the first target group to receive the mRNA vaccine.
