National –

The Thai Cabinet Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha, today, July 20th, has approved financial aid for qualified residents who were affected by the recent order of business closures and restrictions in three provinces, Chonburi, Chachoengsao, and Ayutthaya.

The Prime Minister ordered via a video conference to provide financial remedies to three provinces in the dark-red zone, or maximum control, following the restriction orders on Sunday.

Eligible workers and employees who would be receiving the compensation were those who are categorized in Sections 33, 39, and 40 of social security, including those working in construction worker groups, entertainment venues, restaurants, transportation and storage location fields, wholesale and retail fields, the automotive repair field, the administrative / science / academic activities support field, and information and education fields.

According to the approval, workers in Section 33 would receive 2,500 baht per person while eligible entrepreneurs would receive up to 6 hundred thousand baht, depending on the number of their employees and the size of business.

Employees under section 39 and section 40 of social security would also receive 5,000 baht per person. Those who are not registered under the sections above should do so before the Social Security Office would submit information to the Cabinet for approval on July 31st.

TPN media notes that most informal workers, which is the vast majority of staff in Pattaya, would have limited aid or eligibility. If a foreign resident collects social security and is in one of the specific roles above, however, they would qualify.
