Bangkok –

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha today, July 27th, has initially approved the 2,000-baht reduction of tuition fees for students for the first semester.

Today’s Cabinet meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, has agreed to reduce tuition fees for all university and school students who have to study online due to the government’s preventive measures to control the Covid-19 outbreak.

This followed the Ministry of Education’s proposals to reduce tuition fees for all students in both public and private schools by 2,000 baht per person in the first semester only, not for the whole year. It is because, according to the cabinet, the second semester is not yet determined whether it is necessary to reduce the tuition fee. It will be proposed to the Cabinet for further consideration later.

Moreover, more measures to help schools are also approved, including a cost cutback for teachers that is approximately estimated to be 2.3 billion baht.

In addition, the Cabinet also approved the proposal of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation to reduce the student tuition fee in a ladders method, starting from not exceeding 100,000 baht or for 50 percent of the tuition.
