Pattaya Mayor Sontaya Khunpluem has reassured the local community that a total amount of 100,000 doses of the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine have already been reserved for local residents after false information regarding the allocation not taking place had been spread online.
The Mayor had posted an online response on his official Facebook page yesterday, August 3rd, responding to what he called misleading information on social media that claimed Pattaya city did not actually make a Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine reservation with Chulabhorn Royal Academy, who were supplying the vaccine to private organizations for purchase. He stated that the “fake news” provides incomplete information and has ruined the reputation and public confidence in Pattaya City.
According to Mayor Khunplume, Pattaya City authorities had booked a total of 100,000 doses of Sinopharm with the Chulabhorn institution on June 15th, one day after the reservation was opened, attaching a list of more than 20,000 people who had already registered for the vaccinations. The Sinopharm vaccine is to be paid from the city’s own budget, according to the Mayor and is an attempt to accelerate the vaccination program locally. TPN media has previously written about this several times, such as here.
Sonthaya stated online: “We have been closely monitoring and constantly inquiring about the progress with the Chulabhorn Royal Academy. We were calling for inquiries, sending e-mails, and sending officials to the Chulabhorn Royal College to check the progress and it has been confirmed that our reservations have already been and continue to be listed in the system.”
“Sharing such incomplete messages about vaccine orders has caused misunderstanding and damage to Pattaya City. Therefore, I would like to have a document confirming the reservation of vaccines and inquiring messages about vaccines booking with the Chulabhorn Royal College checked for accurate information.” The Mayor concluded.
The exact date of arrival of the ordered vaccines is still unclear, with Pattaya City officials stating they are still consistently following up with Chulabhorn Royal College. The college has previously stated IT and technical issues have caused some delays but that they were moving forward.
