Phuket welcomes back Thai Paralympics Heroes

Phuket authorities warmly welcomed Thai Paralympics heroes back from Tokyo, Japan today, September 6th, 2021. Pongsakorn Paeyo, who won three gold medals in wheelchair racing told associated Thai media that he is very proud to bring gifts to the Thai people.

A team of Thailand and Phuket authorities led by the Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Sports Mr. Khemmapol Auitayakul and the Phuket Governor Mr. Narong Woonsiw warmly welcomed 68 athletes back from the Tokyo Paralympics Games 2020.

Former Pattaya student, Putharet Khongrak, 27, is celebrating in Japan after winning two bronze medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

The group arrived at the Phuket International Airport as part of the Phuket Sandbox project so that they do not have to conduct a strict quarantine. They have taken a Covid -19 test and passed before going to the Four Points by the Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort.

Mr. Pongsakorn told the press, “I am very proud to bring gold medals to the Thai people as gifts and to make such a positive reputation for Thailand.”

Reporters asked Pongsakorn what food did he want to eat first when he arrived in Thailand after weeks in Japan and he responded, “I haven’t thought about it yet as I am too tired. However, thank you to everyone here in Phuket for the warm welcome. Honestly, the first thing on my mind is to get some rest and relax.”

After the welcoming ceremony, Pongsakorn and the rest of the team were allowed the freedom to do what they wished, and Pongsakorn is believed to have returned to his room to get some well-earned sleep and rest.
